The Electrical Union of Cuba reported that the electricity service was affected for 24 hours yesterday and remained interrupted during the early hours of this morning. The maximum recorded impact was 1,696 MW at 6:30 p.m., coinciding with the hour of maximum demand.
At 7:00 a.m., the availability of the SEN is 1 465 MW, while demand reaches 2 350 MW, which causes an affectation of 955 MW. By midday, it is estimated that 1,350 MW will be affected.
Among the main incidents, UNE reported failures in Unit 5 of CTE Mariel, Unit 5 of CTE Guiteras, Unit 5 of CTE Nuevitas and Unit 2 of CTE Felton.
Unit 2 of CTE Santa Cruz, Units 3 and 4 of CTE Cienfuegos, Unit 1 of CTE Felton and Unit 5 of CTE Renté are under maintenance.
Thermal limitations are estimated at 193 MW out of service. Problems due to lack of fuel are reported for 53 distributed generation plants (279 MW).
During peak hours on Thursday, 80 MW of distributed generation engines, which are out of service due to lack of fuel, are expected to recover. Unit 5 of CTE Mariel (60 MW) is also expected to start up, while Unit 5 of CTE Nuevitas (70 MW) is in the process of starting up.
With this forecast, an availability of 1 675 MW and a maximum demand of 3 180 MW is estimated, which would generate a deficit of 1 505 MW. If these conditions are maintained, the effect could reach 1 575 MW.
