When Miguel Ángel Noa Pérez was invited by his working life to put away his tools in the storeroom for good, he answered without hesitation: «My job is to contribute, to innovate, to be useful to society; retirement must wait for a while longer…», and he went to generate human energy at the hydraulic works under construction.
The person who invited him to rest was thrilled to learn that the worker had won an important prize with a series of innovations that provided solutions in the construction of the Levisa dam, in a rugged area of the municipality of Mayarí in the province of Holguín, but he was not indomitable, as his fellow worker, Víctor Watson Mai, the most outstanding member of the Vanguardia Nacional collective for five consecutive years, had also demonstrated.
Speaking to Trabajadores, the leader of the troop, Carlos Luis Abreu Junco, general director of the Empresa Constructora de Obras de Ingeniería (Ecoi 16) in Holguín, acknowledged: «Our people are heroic in the multiple daily tasks, today we are undertaking the second stage, fundamentally, the curtain and the spillway of the Levisa dam, as part of the investment programme of the East-West Transfer and has among its objectives to serve as a communicating vessel of this hydraulic complex, the derivation of the runoff of the Levisa River and to transfer the water towards the Mayarí dam».
The engineer argued that they are also working on the Birán-Báguanos-Banes master canal, the Cueto-Presa Mejías section 2, and the agricultural irrigation system.
They are the main builders in the construction of the Corúa 5 photovoltaic solar park, where they are assembling the panels, which total 1,638. Here will be the event for December 5, the Day of the Builder.
The forces of the entity, identified as Castor in the commercial environment, contributed to the province of Holguín winning, for the second consecutive year, the emulation organised by the trade union and the Ministry of Construction (Micons).
Avilmat fine work
Another of the entities that contributed in its economic, trade union and social role, so that Ciego de Avila reached the status of outstanding province in the emulation for December 5, was the Construction Materials Company (Avilmat), with outstanding results among the 225 state enterprises, 2,225 MSMEs and more than 69 non-agricultural cooperatives, belonging to the Micons.

There, the average monthly salary was almost 20,000 pesos at the end of last October, based on dividends in the production of goods and services, net sales, productivity, profits and other results that made it eligible for the National Quality Award 2024.
