Dedicated to the intellectual Fernando Martínez Heredia (1939-2017) and organised by the Cuban Institute of Cultural Research Juan Marinello (ICIC), from today until 20 September, La Habanapital will host the First International Symposium on Cultural Research.
According to a press release from the sponsoring institution, the event represents the continuity and expansion of four national symposiums held by the ICIC over the past decade.
The information specifies that 232 papers will be presented and researchers from nine countries and 13 provinces of Cuba will participate in the event, which opens its doors this Tuesday.
The symposium includes a colloquium and a training workshop on the work of Martínez Heredia and will offer a state of the art and an assessment of current cultural research.
The programme includes topics such as cultural consumption, identities, cultural and creative industries, artistic and literary creation, artistic education, Marxism, Cuban and Latin American thought, studies on the Cuban Revolution, social inequalities, educommunication, cultural policies, social and community development, socio-cultural anthropology, heritage and traditional popular culture.
The presentation of the website of the Ethnographic Atlas of Cuba is planned, which will facilitate access to a scientific work, completed by the Centre for Anthropology and the ICIC in the 1990s.
The event will be prestigious with experts and creators such as Miguel Barnet, Virgilio López Lemus, Víctor Fowler, Tania García, Mildred de la Torre and Helmo Hernández, who will give keynote lectures.
The event will become a space for reflection on the role of science in the elaboration and implementation of cultural policies and the transformation of society.
