The new Family Code represents the society of today’s Cuba, reaffirmed Anielka Fernández, member of the National Secretariat of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC).
In statements to Prensa Latina, Fernández said that for the work on this legislative norm the organization established a plan of action that she divided into two parts: the first, dedicated to the popular consultation and the second, which is currently being developed in the communities.
She affirmed that the FMC members, together with the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, are checking and organizing the lists to carry out the referendum on September 25.
She added that leaders of the FMC and the Union of Jurists of Cuba are touring the provinces of the country where they exchange with religious leaders, housewives and unattached women.
The person in charge of the promotion of women and attention to families from the FMC explained that in these exchanges the specialists clarify terms and explain why it is important to vote for this Law, approved by the National Assembly last July.
She said that the organization called on all women in the Greater Antilles to vote in the popular referendum for affection, inclusion and love.
She urged to vote responsibly and pointed out that «we owe this Code to the eternal president of the FMC, Vilma Espín, as well as to all the knowledge of our women, who will vote on September 25 for the present and future of Cuban families».
