Solidarity Meeting in Mexico to Address Impact of Blockade on Cuba

The IX Continental Solidarity Meeting with Cuba continues its sessions today in Mexico with conferences that will address, among other topics, the impact of the United States blockade and the challenges of the media war.

«Cuba Facing Extermination. A Hope That Must Not Die. Update on the Impact of the Blockade and its Relations with the United States» is the title of the paper to be presented by the Deputy General Director of the United States Directorate in the island’s Foreign Ministry, Johana Tablada.

According to the most recent data released by the authorities of the Caribbean nation, the economic, commercial, and financial siege applied by Washington caused estimated damages of seven thousand 556.1 million dollars between March 2024 and last February.

When presenting the updated report in September, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, said that this figure means that the damages compared to the preceding period grew by 49 percent, as a result of the additional tightening measures in the last 12 months.

At current prices, the accumulated damages over more than six decades of blockade amount to 170 thousand 677 million dollars.

The damages from this policy, condemned each year by the vast majority of countries in the United Nations General Assembly, exceeded two trillion dollars, taking into consideration the value of gold on the international market, to avoid the fluctuations of the dollar.

Also this Friday, the director and researcher of the Editorial Fund of the Casa de las Américas, Fernando Luis Rojas, and the coordinator of Cubainformación, José Manzaneda, will present the keynote lecture «Battle of Ideas in Communication. Media War and Challenges.»

«Cuban Youth, Continuity and Guarantee of the Revolution», with the speakers Elián González, deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power, and Fernando González, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, will close the day’s proceedings.

Furthermore, an exchange between the participants and the five-time Olympic champion Mijaín López, from the largest of the Antilles, will take place.

The IX Continental Solidarity Meeting with Cuba will be in session until Sunday at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex in the capital, with the attendance of hundreds of delegates from 25 Latin American nations, in addition to Spain, Lebanon, and the United States.
