Second Cuban film festival promoted in France

The Mayor’s Office of Vitry-sur-Seine today began to promote the Second Cuban Film Festival to be held in this town in the Paris Region from the 15th to the 22nd of this month, which will include the screening of seven feature films.

On its official website, the entity adds that there will be a parallel photographic exhibition «Juanita & Chan Chan», by the artist Avren, who will share snapshots taken during a cultural and solidarity trip to the Caribbean nation in the autumn of 2023, according to the Mayor’s Office.

The festival is organised by the commune of Vitry-sur-Seine, on the initiative of the association Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop) and coordinated by Miguel Quintero.

The line-up at the Les 3 Cinés Robespierre cinema will include the films City in Red (2008), directed by Rebeca Chávez; Why are my friends crying? (2017), by Magda González; The Dreamer (2004), by Angelo Rizzo; and Fatima or the Park of Fraternity (2014), by Jorge Perugorría.

Ian Padrón’s Habanastation (2011) and the comedies Lista de espera (2000) by Juan Carlos Tabío and Juan de los Muertos (2011) by Alejandro Brugués complete the list.

Short films will also be screened and lectures will be held at the Mayor’s Office.

According to the organisers, the opening day will feature a popular festive activity to the rhythm of Cuban music, similar to the one that attracted a large number of Vitry-sur-Seine residents on the first edition of the festival last year.

The fifth deputy mayor, Albertino Ramaël, in charge of the Opening to the World delegation, considered the event an opportunity to strengthen ties with Cuba, and highlighted the privileged relationship between this Caribbean country and the commune of the Paris region.

We aim to promote artistic exchanges between our nations and to give a leading role to young people in these exchanges,» he stressed.
