Santa Massiel Has Her Reasons to Be at Piña Colada 2026

  • The Casa del Joven Creador will once again be the ideal setting for the troubadours coming to this new edition of the fusion music festival.

«It makes me very happy that Piña Colada is taking place because, beyond knowing that it won’t be like previous years due to the current situation our country is going through, it says a lot about the political will, the cultural commitment and the desire that exists in the province for there to be art for the people; for it to be shared and to also give a little of that exciting feeling to those who will always need it and be grateful, especially in times like these,» this young troubadour, who serves as one of the vice-presidents of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) in the capital, told Invasor.

The courtyard of the Casa del Joven Creador will once again be the agreed venue for musicians of the calibre of Santa herself, Nelson Valdés, Miguel D’Cuba, Alexander Santiesteban, Deborah Parra, among others, to offer their concerts and share expectations with that audience that has remained faithful for years to intelligent songwriting and the most genuine music.

The author of songs much loved by young people such as Camisa ingrávida, Descongelando la miel, among many others, continues to lead a very active life as a troubadour, performing not only at the Pabellón Cuba and La Madriguera, but also at festivals, concerts and television programmes.

«I’m going with my musicians who make up Motivos Personales (my band), and I’m bringing some new songs too. The expectation is always nice because we’ve already created something there where, even if the moments are sometimes a little strange, we always have a good time.»

On this occasion, Piña Colada has focused on a kind of cultural circuit where the invited artists will perform in spaces such as the AHS headquarters itself, the headquarters of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac), the Artex courtyard, the El Mulato Acelerao courtyard, the Principal Theatre, and the Piña Colada bar.

In this way, one of the events most anticipated by a significant part of the Avilanian people adapts to the current times, always seeking to be closer to the people as one of the priorities of Cuban cultural policy.

Santa Massiel continues, «The premise, the motto that the association has had is to make it nice, to make it even nicer. And when you have that clear inside, nothing can affect you. It always generates an important, interesting, joyful space for exchange, especially not only for the young people who attend, but for the general public and for other generations of artists.

«The programme that our AHS is preparing is that umbrella where everyone fits, where nothing is closed and where one can be, exist and flow in the best possible way. That’s how I always see the programme of our Casa del Joven Creador within the framework of Piña Colada.»
