San Marino Approves Motion of Support for Cuba Against US Blockade

The Parliament of the Republic of San Marino has approved a resolution of support for Cuba, condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against that nation, a legislative source indicates today.

In the document signed by the Great and General Council of San Marino, the highest unicameral legislative body of that European country, it is stated that the aggressive US policy against the Cuban people caused, throughout 2026, a deterioration of the island’s economic, social and humanitarian situation.

The text refers to the serious repercussions of such measures on the living conditions of the Cuban population, in violation of human rights.

It is recalled that during the recent session of the United Nations General Assembly on the «Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba», held on 7 July, the vast majority of States spoke out against these actions.

These measures affect «the country’s capacity to guarantee the regular functioning of the health system, food production, the energy system, transport, water supply and other essential public services,» states the text, citing what was expressed in that forum by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez.

They also significantly limit access to international markets, financing, technologies, medicines and raw materials, the motion states.

San Marino’s position in support of the Cuban people is based on the tradition of its foreign policy, «on respect for the United Nations Charter, international law, multilateralism, the peaceful settlement of disputes, cooperation between States and the universal protection of human rights,» it adds.

The legislators expressed, in that sense, the need to «support any initiative aimed at fostering dialogue between the parties concerned.»

«The improvement of the living conditions of the Cuban population, in full respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, constitutes an objective of interest to the international community and requires the strengthening of diplomatic dialogue, multilateral cooperation and respect for international law,» they state.

They also propose to promote, within the framework of international organisations, initiatives to facilitate the Cuban people’s access to essential goods, medicines, energy supply and services indispensable for the protection of health, the dignity of persons, as well as the country’s economic and social development.

In this parliamentary resolution, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of San Marino, Luca Beccari, is finally urged to continue promoting, in the competent multilateral forums and, in particular, within the framework of the United Nations, that nation’s position against the blockade and other restrictive measures adopted by the United States against Cuba.
