Russian foreign minister to speak to the press after dialogue with US in Riyadh

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will speak to the press after the US-Russia talks in Riyadh, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said today.

«After the negotiations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov plans to speak to the media,» the spokeswoman told reporters, adding that a short break has been announced for the time being, after which the parties will continue talks.

The high-level dialogue between the Russian and US delegations began on Tuesday in Riyadh to seek the normalisation of relations between the two powers, to finalise the first summit between the presidents, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, and to facilitate possible negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

The Russian delegation is composed of Foreign Minister Lavrov, Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov, the director general of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Kiril Dmitriev.

From the US side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff are participating in the meeting.

Putin and Trump held a first telephone conversation on 12 February in which they discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, the prisoner swap, Iran’s nuclear programme and the state of relations between Moscow and Washington.
