Rumbatá: 30 years of rumba in veins

Towards the 30th anniversary of the founding of the music-dance group Rumbatá, its director Wilmer Joel Ferrán Jimenez made an exclusive statement to the Cuban News Agency about the importance of sharing Cuban art with the community.

Founded on April 7, 1996, Rumbatá has recently reached its 29th anniversary, however it is already celebrating the road to a closed anniversary with various activities, commented Ferrán Jimenez.

He said that the cultural expedition, organised by the Ministry of Culture, is an initiative that every month offers artists the opportunity to share with the inhabitants of the capital, as was the case this time, in the municipality of Cotorro.

Bringing our rhythm from Camagüey and having this link with the community, to be able to express our art directly to the people, and for them to be infected by Rumbatá and everything we do, is a necessary experience and one that is appreciated,» confessed the director.

Rumbatá, he assured, cultivates rumba, a genre that the people always receive with so much love and which has already been declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity, due to its importance within Cuban culture.

That is why, he recommended, that these cultural initiatives should be maintained, where all artistic manifestations converge, as an amalgam of art from different genres, humour, dance, theatre and art in general

We must enhance the culture of Cuba and this folkloric world that defines us as Cubans and Creoles, who defend our land with so much love; this is the moment for the people to identify with what is happening with art in this country.

According to Ferrán Jimenez, the Rumbatá group is working on its fifth phonogram, which will have a diverse and active repertoire, with around 90 or 100 musical themes, which it would be a great pleasure for the people to know.
