The prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine has been suspended for several months due to unreasonable demands, Human Rights Commissioner Tatiana Moskalkova said today.
She told the TASS news agency that the authorities in Kiev are constantly making unreasonable demands that make the exchanges impossible.
Moskalkova added that the demands do not comply with the Geneva Conventions and other international humanitarian norms. The Ombudsman stressed that Moscow is always ready for constructive dialogue and to seek solutions for the resumption of prisoner exchanges.
She said earlier that her country handed over a list of 500 Ukrainian prisoners to Kiev.
For several months, the Russian side has been unable to get Ukraine to accept its prisoners of war as part of the exchange.
