Cuba’s culinary and rum tradition, its evolution over time and current forms of consumption will be the main themes of the 14th edition of the Varadero Gourmet International Festival, which begins today at the Plaza America Convention Centre in this tourist destination in the west of the country.
According to a press release from the Corporación Cuba Ron S.A., the Ronera de Cárdenas and La Vizcaya will have a space in the event, as they will highlight, through a master conference, the history, work and production of light rum in this complex located in the City of First Fruits.
Specialists from both institutions and the aspiring Master of Cuban Rum Isabel Rivero Páez will participate, and attendees will taste the rums produced by the Corporation, with emphasis on those produced in the Matanzas region: Perla del Norte, Sao Can and Kawama, according to the information.
The programme of the fourteenth Varadero Gourmet also includes for the opening day the lectures «Change to preserve» and «From tradition to haute cuisine».
During the event, which will run until 13 September, companies from the tourism and food sector will present products and services, and there will be competitions in the canteen and in tasting and pairing with Habanos.
The Varadero Gourmet International Festival, organised by the Ministry of Tourism, the Cubasol Business Group and Empresa Extrahotelera Palmares S.A., celebrates Cuban culture and traditions through unique gastronomic experiences.
