Reinforcements against COVID-19 give peace to Avilanian families

Children like Oliver Oliva Rodríguez, from the municipality of Majagua, in Ciego de Ávila, because of their young age, do not internalize the security that the COVID-19 booster doses offer to their lives; however, the faces of their families show peace in knowing that they are protected.

This infant is one of the more than 49,360 children between two and 11 years of age in the province, one of the three population groups that benefit from the current campaign of administration of booster doses with Abdala and Soberana.

The merit of this privilege lies not only in knowing that our children are immunized and less likely to be infected with the dangerous coronavirus, but also in the fact that this protection is with a drug produced in Cuban scientific institutions, Oliver’s mother, Dianelis Rodríguez, told the Cuban News Agency (Agencia Cubana de Noticias).

My little boy, who is five years old, received two doses of Soberana 02 and a third one of Soberana Plus in September and October last year, and these days he was given the first booster with Soberana 02, both produced at the Finlay Vaccine Institute, said Rodriguez.

We parents are very happy because Cuba is the first country to protect its pediatric population from two to 18 years of age against COVID-19, emphasized the native of Majagua, a teacher by profession.

Beatriz Barrera Lastre, an official of the provincial vaccination team in Ciego de Ávila, informed digital Invasor that the territory meets the goals set for the date, which places it in the top positions nationwide.

She pointed out that immunization of those between 12 and 18 years of age is at 99.5 percent, in those over 19 years of age it is at 100 percent and in children between two and 11 years of age it reaches 96 percent.

However, she said, there are delays in attending the vaccination centers, which slows down the process and makes it necessary to return intact vials to their original cold chain every day.

For this program, all the family doctor and nurse practitioner’s offices remain open in the province, except in the main municipality where there are 81 certificates, in addition to the five points established in the polyclinics of each health area.

Human resources, technology and immunogens are also guaranteed.
