Díaz-Canel presided over the award ceremony to recognise a representation of cederistas, zones and collectives that have done important work in integration with the organisation, on the 64th anniversary of the founding of the Committees for the Defence of the Revolution.
The Committees for the Defence of the Revolution (CDR) were created on 28 September 1960 by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz as a vanguard organisation to defend the revolutionary achievements.
As the 64th anniversary of the founding of the CDRs approaches, and in the presence of the First Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, a ceremony was held yesterday to recognise a representation of CDR members, zones and collectives that have done important work in the integration of the organisation.
«Only just ideas survive, defended with courage, dignity and firmness,» said Fidel. Under this precept, seven zones were recognised with the 28 September Flag, the highest distinction awarded by the CDR, representing all those who have achieved this merit in the country.
In addition, the medal for the Defence of the Homeland and the Unity of the Barrio was awarded to 165 CDR grassroots leaders who stand out in the fulfilment of multiple tasks, as well as the 28th of September Distinction to 215 very outstanding people for their actions and exemplary work.
Also present were the members of the Political Bureau of the Party, Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power and of the Council of State, and Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of Organisation of the Central Committee, as well as the Hero of the Republic Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, national coordinator of the CDRs.
