Raúl Castro and Díaz-Canel send letter to President of Angola

Army General Raúl Castro, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, expressed, in a letter to João Lourenço, President of Angola, the interest in strengthening the ties between both countries.

The missive was delivered today to the Angolan head of state during an audience at the Presidential Palace of Cidade Alta, in Luanda, by Oscar León, ambassador of Cuba in Angola, highlighted the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) on its official site.

The Cuban diplomat declared to the press after the meeting that the letter from Raúl Castro and Díaz-Canel reflects the mutual interest in strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation, in a year in which the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations is commemorated, next 15th November.

He assured that the celebration will be an excellent opportunity to deepen the friendship between the peoples and expand cooperation in all possible areas.

León added that during the audience he conversed with the Angolan president about the state of bilateral relations and informed him of the actions to materialise the agreements and instruments signed between both nations.

He mentioned in particular those ratified in 2023, when the Cuban President visited Luanda, in August and, subsequently, with the visit of the Angolan head of state to Havana, in September of the same year.

The Minrex highlighted in its publication that Cuba and Angola maintain historical relations marked by the military cooperation provided by the Caribbean country since 1975, the training of Angolan professionals on the island, as well as collaboration in matters of health, education, and other sectors.
