The National Central Act for the 72nd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks began this Saturday at the Máximo Gómez Báez Revolution Square in this central province.
Presiding over the event are Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Revolution Commander Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, and Rebel Army Commander José Ramón Machado Ventura.
Attending are members of the Political Bureau, the Secretariat of the PCC Central Committee, and Party and Government officials in Ciego de Ávila, along with 370 representatives from 23 countries that stand in solidarity with Cuba.
The act commemorates the events of 26th July 1953, when a group of young revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro attacked the Moncada barracks in Santiago de Cuba and the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in Bayamo.
