Environmentalists from Ciego de Avila joined the national and global movements for the preservation of the ozone layer, by exchanging with students of the Provincial Academy of Aquatic Sports «Julio Antonio Mella», in the context of the celebrations for the 4th of April.
With simple messages they explained to the students the particularities, functions and importance of the ozone layer to preserve life on the planet, as well as alerting them to the human actions that damage it, in the midst of the celebrations for the 64th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneers Organisation and the 63rd anniversary of the Young Communist League.
Tania Delgado Pestana, head of the Department of Environmental Policy Instruments of the Subdelegation of Environment, in the Territorial Delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, stressed the importance of promoting awareness from an early age and joining forces to preserve this protective shield of the Earth.
On this occasion, the children’s creation competition launched by the Ozone Technical Office (OTOZ) was promoted on the occasion of the celebration, next September, of the 30th anniversary of this organisation and the World Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.
Every generation must take care of this protective barrier against ultraviolet radiation, for which it is necessary to continuously educate about the Montreal Protocol, considering that environmental challenges can be overcome with the help of science and the efforts of the international community, said Delgado Pestana.
Livia Polín García, a specialist from the Subdelegation of the Environment, pointed out that, from the beginning of this year until September, numerous environmental education activities will take place in Avila, in different places, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the OTOZ.
