The members of the José Martí Pioneers Organisation in Ciegode Avila are currently holding a day of homage to decorum and courage, in recognition of those who in April 1961 dealt Yankee imperialism its first major defeat in Latin America.
Among the activities for the anniversary, the new generation of the Avila territory is holding meetings with history, where they learn from their teachers about the events that took place in that memorable epic.
Competitions in different artistic manifestations, acts of revolutionary reaffirmation, special matinees, and political-cultural evenings complement the actions undertaken by the new pines of the province, to remember the victory of the people on the sands of Playa Giron.
The day of homage to decorum and courage, led by the pioneers of Avila, is a sign of the gratitude felt by our children for those men who sixty-four years ago dressed in dignity and patriotism in order to undermine the attempted outrage against the new homeland.
