Pioneer protagonism in sight on Primero de Enero

The 64th anniversary assembly of the José Martí Pioneers Organisation (OPJM), in the municipality of Primero de Enero, began with a visit to the local museum in order to learn more about the history of the territory.

The specialists of the cultural institution delved into the essential passages of the sugar tradition of the former Violeta batey, which this February 16th reached 109 years of existence, and described the stay in the municipality of Cuban personalities such as Clodomira Acosta, Jesús Menéndez, Enrique Varona, Ernesto Guevara and Fidel Castro.

After concluding the exchange, the delegates gathered at the Tamara Bunke school, host of the event, where they developed the work in commissions, whose thematic axes were study as the main duty, the functioning of the organisation and the educational tasks and social impact.

At the end and as a kind of intermission they appreciated the presentation by members of the circle of interest of the Red Cross, by the hand of its highest representative in the territory, Margot Hernandez Morgado, where they addressed the importance of first aid in case of mishaps in schools, accompanied by a practical exercise.

Another important moment was the plenary session of the 64th anniversary Assembly of the OPJM in Primero de Enero, where the pioneers of primary and basic secondary education expressed their concerns about the educational teaching process, the improvement of education and the link between the family, the school and the community.

In the presence of Arley Silva Velázquez, an official of the National Committee of the Young Communist League (UJC) and Aracely Tomás Torres, member of the Provincial Bureau of the youth organisation and president of the OPJM in Ciego de Ávila, several students spoke about their desire to receive more in-depth classes on Cuban history, illustrated through teaching aids and from the particularities of the locality.

Alejandro Ramírez Morejón, from the César Escalante Dellundé educational centre in the Pedro Ballester Popular Council, referred to the challenges facing the pioneer organisation, citing among them the stimulation of students with achievements and the recovery of training for the members of the collective of schools in the Pioneer Explorers Camp located in Majagua.

Pioneer Dainé López Gutiérrez, from ESBU Carlos Juan Finlay, explained how counterproductive it is to enter the process of educational improvement without receiving all the textbooks, which has a negative impact on the quality of the classes.

Other proposals are associated with encouraging projects to tackle addictions such as alcoholism, drugs and excessive use of mobile phones, as well as demanding discipline from each student and compliance with school regulations.

As part of the 64th anniversary municipal assembly of the OPJM in the municipality of Primero de Enero, the delegates to the provincial congress of the pioneers in Ciego de Avila and the base guides who will accompany them on their journey were presented. The final activity, called Pa’l barrio, took place in the 25th district, where they shared with the inhabitants of the area.
