Ecuador’s National Assembly (Parliament) will create an occasional commission to investigate the murder of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, local media reported today.
The working group was approved with 134 affirmative votes, in agreement with the Construye movement’s bench, which promoted Villavicencio’s candidacy for the extraordinary elections of last October.
Construye described the decision as a significant step in the search for truth and justice.
However, the Legislative has not yet defined the details of the formation of this occasional investigation commission.
Villavicencio was murdered last August 9 as he was leaving a campaign rally held at a school in the north of Quito.
