Outstanding Ciego de Ávila in the preservation of ecosystems and the sustainable use of natural resources

The operation of 16 special demonstration areas, called soil, water and forest conservation polygons, with an integrated approach to sustainable land management, is one of the results for which the province of Ciego de Ávila achieves outstanding status in integral management in honor of June 5, World Environment Day.

Rafael Pérez Carmenate, Master of Science and territorial delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), also mentioned among the achievements the creation of six organic matter production centers, the increase in forests, and the contribution of international projects of Coastal Resilience and My Coast, with a view to reforestation and rehabilitation of mangroves, among other tasks aimed at protecting the communities close to this environment.

As a summary of the commemorative activities of June 5 in the Avilanian territory, researchers Juan Carlos Pina Iglesias and Felipe Matos Pupo, winners of the Provincial Environment Award, were stimulated.

The contributions of Rafael González-Abreu Fernández and Danilo Joel González Jiménez were recognized for their sustained work aimed at reducing the effects of climate change.

The members of the Ecosistema Vivo group, UNEAC for the development of its Entorno event, the companies Ciegoplast and Cepil in the optimal use of raw materials and the implementation of the circular economy, the Jardines del Rey international airport and the company of hydraulic use, collective these last two winners of territorial environmental recognition.
