Participants in the territorial project Diversification of pineapple varieties for their introduction in Ciego de Avila, have managed to obtain a fruit of the Cabezona variety, coveted for its good size and sweetness.

Mainly workers of the Direction of Scaling and Technology Transfer of the Bioplants Center are the protagonists of this achievement, framed in the Food Sovereignty program.

Agro-science researchers from Ciego de Avila are carrying out quality evaluations to obtain reliable data on the characteristics of this specimen of Cabezona pineapple and to be able to continue its genetic improvement.

The diversification of pineapple is a task assumed in the province of Ciego de Avila by state, private and cooperative producers with the purpose of achieving high levels of harvests to satisfy the domestic market and create an exportable item that allows bringing foreign currency into the country.
