MES presents awards and recognitions for Science Day

Awards, distinctions, and recognitions for scientific contributions to technology, innovation, and postgraduate studies were granted at the Aula Magna of the University of Havana, during the National Act of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), on the occasion of the Cuban Science Day.

According to Resolution 86/2021, 20 awards were given to the most relevant results of scientific and technological research and innovation, based on proposals received from universities and Science, Technology, and Innovation entities attached to the MES.

Within «Special Distinctions of the Minister of Higher Education for Merit in Scientific and Technological Research and Innovation» 24 people were winners; seven in the area of knowledge of Social and Humanistic Sciences, five in Agricultural Sciences, six in Natural and Exact Sciences, and six in Technical Sciences.

Thirty Special Distinctions were also awarded by the Minister of Higher Education – in accordance with Resolution 121/17 – for the activity carried out in postgraduate studies, as well as five recognitions to young professors or researchers with the greatest contribution in this area and seven to outstanding students, but corresponding to 2021.

The MES gives awards every year in the activities of Science, Technology and Innovation, and Postgraduate by the members of the Technical Advisory Council and the Advisory Commission for Postgraduate, respectively, and in 2023 we are not lagging behind, despite the situation our country is going through, said Ondina León Díaz, general director of Research and Postgraduate to the Cuban News Agency.

With the aim of exalting and stimulating collectives, teachers, and researchers of universities and research centers, the Aula Magna opened its doors to Cuban professors and researchers of the sector, with outstanding work in scientific fields of national relevance, she commented.

He also added that many of these award winners and their research will participate in the 14th International University 2024 Congress, which will be held from February 5 to 9 in Havana under the slogan «Higher Education of the Future: social transformation, quality, relevance, and sustainability».
