Floral tributes from General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and President Díaz-Canel, honoured the beloved actor
A heartfelt round of applause, the kind that comes from the heart when admiration and gratitude are expressed yesterday at the Necropolis of Colón, by family, colleagues, friends and people in general, at the farewell to the complete actor Mario Limonta, who died last Saturday, a few hours shy of his 89th birthday.
In the faces present the deep respect; in the memory, like bursts, the images of Mario-Nacho Verdecia, or of Sergeant Arencibia; the images of his performances in the theatre and cinema; or of his many other performances in which he was what he was asked to be -without typecasting or mediocrity-; the stellar performance of Sandalio, the Vola’o, which suffices to mention to bring to mind, along with the words, the figure of Aurora Basnuevo, the Estervina who played the character, and his inseparable companion in life.
«To fight against oblivion, because good things do not pass away», was the exhortation of the actor Alden Knight, in the words that honoured the moment. Eternal rest and peace are the sentiments of his loved ones and of this town, to which he proudly belonged, and to which he gave the best of himself, with the magnificence of his art.
Together with his «Mulatísima», Mario Limonta will forever occupy a sacred place in Cuban culture and spirituality.
