Luis Ernesto Quesada climbed to the podium in Capablanca chess tournament

Another praiseworthy performance was achieved by the Avileña GM Luis Ernesto Quesada in the International Capablanca in Memoriam Tournament, by taking third place in the strong competition, which concluded this Sunday at the Habana Libre Hotel in the Cuban capital.

Quesada, who went from strength to strength in the tournament, closed with draws in his last games against Ukrainian Ruslan Ponomariov, who led the elite group from end to end until he won the title, and against Daniel Alvornoz from Camagüey, who came second.

After these results, the player known as the Bear of Florence finished with 5 points, which will allow him to continue adding points to his Elo (6.8 points), and ratifies his position as one of the best players in the country at present.

Quesada’s next stop will be the «Eleazar Jiménez in Memoriam» tournament to be held in June in Ciego de Ávila, where lovers of the game of science in this province will be able to enjoy his performances.

The other two players from Avila who took part in the open group at the Capablanca, FM Keber Solares and Alián Borroto, finished 28th and 32nd respectively.
