Las Tunas falls in its second appearance at the World Club Tournament

The team from Las Tunas representing Cuba in the I Edition of the Baseball Champions League Americas (BCL Americas) lost this Thursday with a score of 19-15 against Kane County Cougars, current champion of the American Association of Professional Baseball, Independent League of the United States.

The most outstanding offensive player for the Tunisians was Yosvani Alarcón, who hit 5-3 with two homers, a run scored, five runs batted in and a strikeout. Also adding a pair of RBIs were Mateo, Yoelkis Guibert, Roberto Baldoquín and Yordanis Alarcón. Roel Santos and Yuniesky Larduet scored three runs each.

Overall they hit 18 hits and committed four errors on defence. Mayabech right-hander Albert Valladares could not walk the game’s starter and allowed seven runs in just 1.2 innings.

Of the relievers who pitched for the Cubans, only the last one allowed no runs, Rubén Rodríguez of Holguín, who in 1.1 innings gave away one ticket and got his four outs on strikes. After Valladares, Keniel Ferraz tolerated four runs (three clean), Dariel Góngora another three and Frank Luis Medina allowed five runs. In the end, the Pinareño ended up taking the loss in the match.

Las Tunas, which represents Cuba in the I Edition of the Baseball Champions League Americas (BCL Americas), made its debut on Wednesday with a 31-7 victory over Curaçao’s Santa María Pirates.

Now Las Tunas (second place in Group B) will have to face the Titanes de Florida (third place in Group A), winners of the Double-A Superior Baseball League of Puerto Rico, for a place in the Semifinals.

The Kane County won the Tunas section with two hits and thus advanced directly to next Saturday’s Semifinals.
