Martí said: «If man serves, the earth serves». This precept accompanies those who are responsible for the task of making the development of food production in the province of Ciego de Avila a priority.
In the CPA October Revolution of the Agricultural Enterprise «La Cuba», progress is being made in the sowing of various crops. This was confirmed by Julio Heriberto Gómez Casanova, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party in this provincial centre, when he toured its areas and met with its board of directors.
The secretary appreciates a growth in the sowing of short-cycle crops such as sweet potatoes, and among his plans is to expand to other products, fulfilling the call made by Salvador Valdés Mesa, member of the Party’s Political Bureau and vice-president of the Republic during a recent visit to this effect.
They intend to plant some 600 hectares (ha) of their flagship product, the plantain, and currently in Cuba they own some 1800 hectares (ha) of the product (taken from Invasor Digital).
