The IV International Colloquium Patria continues today in Cuba with the presentation of the documentary «Soundtrack to a Coup d’Eat», by Johan Grimomprez.
The material published in 2024 «narrates a Cold War episode in which American musicians Abbey Lincoln and Max Roach burst into the UN Security Council in protest at the assassination of Congolese leader Patrice Lumumba», explains the Wikipedia platform.
The main objective of the event’s programme is to debate the use of digital content and platforms as tools for social mobilisation, political participation and the shaping of power.
During its inauguration on Monday, the meeting dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the TeleSUR channel – founded by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez – was the setting for the conference «How to establish a counter-hegemonic agenda with global impact; the TeleSUR case», given by the president of this multinational, Patricia Villegas.
Villegas urged the counter-hegemonic media to work together to build an agenda and shared several keys, from the 20 years of experience of the television station, for an agenda with global impact.
The event hosts theoretical workshops, exhibition fairs and other keynote lectures, where participants also pay tribute to the Faculty of Communication at the University of Havana, on its 40th anniversary.
The day culminated with a tribute to TeleSUR in the Havana neighbourhood of «El Avioncito».
Sponsored by the Union of Cuban Journalists and with the collaboration of Casa de las Américas and the Hermanos Saíz Association, this forum has been held since 2022.
The International Colloquium «Patria» is named after the newspaper founded by National Hero José Martí in 1892 to spread libertarian ideas and unite Cubans around the need for independence from the Spanish metropolis.
Nearly 400 national and foreign guests from 47 countries are taking part in this fourth edition.
