Israel killed 220 UN agency workers in Gaza

The commissioner-general of the UN agency tasked with helping Palestinians, Philippe Lazzarini, today denounced the deaths of 220 UN workers in Israeli attacks in Gaza over the past 11 months.

«Day after day, another school housing displaced people was attacked in the Nuseirat refugee camp, among the dead were six members of our staff,» criticised the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

They were working and providing support to the families who sought refuge in the school, the official noted on his X account.

«Humanitarian staff, facilities and operations (of Unrwa) have been flagrantly and relentlessly ignored since the beginning of the war,» he stressed.

Lazzarini warned that the more impunity prevails, the more irrelevant international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions on the subject become.

Earlier, on the same social network, Unrwa condemned the new bombing carried out by the Israeli army.

This is the highest number of deaths among our personnel in a single incident, the institution noted.

The organisation pointed out that the school has been attacked five times since the beginning of the conflict in October last year.

«No one is safe in Gaza No one is spared. Schools and other civilian infrastructure must be protected at all times, they are not a target,» the UN agency said.
