All indications are that boxing will finally be on the programme for the Los Angeles-2028 Olympic Games.
After a prolonged period of uncertainty, and with the threat of being removed from the Olympic family, all indications are that boxing will finally be on the programme for the Los Angeles Olympics-2028.
According to various press reports, it is only a matter of time before boxing is inscribed in the Californian city.
The executive board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is currently meeting in Costa Navarino, Greece, and it is expected that boxing’s inclusion will be made official at an IOC session later this week.
«I have every confidence that the session will approve it so that all boxers around the world will have the certainty of being able to participate in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 if their national federation is recognised by World Boxing,» said IOC President Thomas Bach.
World Boxing (WB) was established in 2023, and has 84 affiliated national federations. The IOC recognised WB on a temporary basis in February.
«This is a very significant and important decision for Olympic boxing, and brings the sport one step closer to being re-established on the programme,» said its head, Boris Van der Vorst.
