With the 10 municipalities of the province compromised, Ciego de Ávila is experiencing an increase in the number of dengue cases with an infestation index of 0.37, out of a minimum permissible of 0.05.

The complex epidemiological situation is denoted by a total of 578 febrile cases identified in the last week, of which more than 50 percent tested positive for the presence of IgM antibodies, most of them coming from Ciro Redondo, Baraguá, Majagua and Ciego de Ávila, the municipalities with the worst indicators.

According to José Luis López González, deputy provincial director of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, Majagua is in transmission, with an infestation index of 0.98; while in the main municipality, preventive actions are being carried out.

He also added how necessary is the cooperation of the neighbors in the fight against arbovirosis, since when the blocking of cases where a fever is identified, the adulticide should be continued in neighboring houses, where there should be no closed homes.
