The Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City reaffirmed its condemnation of the intensified US blockade and rejected the fact that the island remains on the list of countries suspected of sponsoring terrorism.
This was made known by the president of the solidarity organisation, Truong Thi Hien, at an event to mark the 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, in which she highlighted the unity of the Cuban people in last Friday’s massive mobilisation in Havana.
In the presence of leaders of the Fatherland Front, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Women’s Union, universities and students, he also called for a mass mobilisation to raise funds to make a donation to the Cuban people.
The gesture was thanked by the Cuban Consul General in the southern metropolis, Ariadne Feo Labrada, who emphasised the special ties of friendship that have united the peoples of both nations for more than six decades.
The diplomat recalled how in the most difficult years of the war in Vietnam, and in the subsequent stage of national reconstruction, Cuba extended its hand to the Indochinese nation, making numerous donations to the brotherly Vietnamese people.
The evening was brought to a close by young Cuban musicians living in Ho Chi Minh City, who, in addition to offering the audience the best of traditional Cuban music, ratified their permanent support for their country in the struggle against the unjust economic, financial and commercial blockade by the United States.
