Everything is ready today at the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum in the capital for tomorrow’s celebration of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Night of Champions, the third to be organised in Latin America.
The card, which will feature six fights, two of which will include a world title fight, is the first professional event to be held in Cuba in more than 60 years and is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the First World Boxing Championship, held at the same venue.
In 10-round fights, two-time Olympic champions Arlen López (80 kilograms) and Julio César La Cruz (92) will fight for the title in their divisions against Dominican José Luis Tejeda and Uzbekistan’s Madiyar Saydrakhimov, respectively.
The purse, as announced at a press conference by the IBA supervisor, Russian Kirill Shchekutyev, has a prize of 120,000 dollars for the winners and 100,000 dollars for the losers.
Before that, the other double titleholder in summer events, Roniel Iglesias, will cross blows in the ring with the Armenian Gurgen Madoyan (67 kg), the gold medallist in Paris 2024, Erislandy Álvarez, with the Colombian José Muñoz and the three-time world champion Lázaro Álvarez with the Uzbek Mujibillo, the latter two in the 63.5 kg category.
The evening will open with the bout between Saidel Horta, silver medallist at the World Championships, and Russian Ruslan Belousov (57 kg).
This card will be the culmination of the celebrations for the World Boxing Day, which will start today morning with the meeting of the lBA Executive Committee and will continue in the afternoon with the Forum of the Federations of America.
On the same day of the bouts, there will be a master class in the Central Park with junior fighters, followed by the public weigh-in and a press conference by the President of the international boxing body, the Russian Umar Kremlev.
