Fourth Donation from Mexico Arrives in Cuba

The fourth shipment of solidarity aid from Mexico was received this Friday at the port of Havana. The cargo of more than one thousand tonnes of products donated by the people, organisations, Cubans residing in that country, and the Mexican government includes food, medical supplies and medicines, and forms part of the response to the appeal made by the newspaper La Jornada, which has mobilised Mexican solidarity towards the Island.

Betsy Díaz Velázquez, Minister of Domestic Trade, offered details on the content and impact of this new aid, which adds to three previous shipments – two by sea and one by air – and which on this occasion again includes milk, beans and other essential products.

She commented that the distribution of the more than 3,500 tonnes received in the three previous shipments is progressing as committed, despite fuel limitations.

She detailed that in Havana, the delivery of beans to vulnerable families, pregnant women and priority groups (children and those over 65) has practically been completed.

Regarding the provinces of Pinar del Río, Mayabeque and the Isle of Youth, she explained that they have already completed the distribution of their allocations, while Artemisa is about to conclude the delivery of Maria biscuits and Matanzas will incorporate children with low weight and height and pregnant women with products from previous shipments.

One of the most significant items has been milk, which is reaching all provinces to guarantee 30 days’ supply for children under two years old, 10 days’ supply for children aged two to six in territories that receive powdered milk – as there are territories that distribute fresh milk – as well as for pregnant women and medical diets.

The minister thanked the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, the Mexican people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Mexican embassy in Cuba and the Ministry of the Navy, whose sailors have supported the unloading efficiently.

«Here are food and medical supplies donated by the Mexican people. I think that is very important,» she stated, and highlighted that the previous operation was carried out in record time thanks to joint work. This – she assured – ratifies humanism, solidarity and brotherhood. «Thank you, Mexico, once again.»

In recent days, the First Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, expressed on his X account that the aid sent by the beloved Claudia Sheinbaum and the appeal from La Jornada «accompanies and encourages our resistance like a brotherly embrace.»

The fourth donation reinforces the bonds of solidarity between both peoples and contributes to alleviating basic needs on the island, in a context of resource scarcity.
