Firefighters Warn About Risks of IBC Plastic Tanks

The Cuban Fire Service once again warned this Wednesday, from the profile of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) on social media Facebook, about the fire dangers associated with the use of IBC plastic tanks to store fuels, after circulating public images of a recent incident involving isotanks in Manzanillo, Granma.

The Cuban Fire Service insisted on the importance of taking extreme safety measures, especially in the storage of fuels, and recalled that an authorisation is required for the transport and commercialisation of these products.

Among the recommendations issued were to avoid depositing fuels in homes or unauthorised premises, to use approved metal containers and keep them closed, as well as to guarantee adequate ventilation and distance from sources of heat or electrical sparks.

The institution stressed that smoking or carrying out work with equipment that generates sparks near storage areas is prohibited, and that it is essential to have fire extinguishers and comply with safety standards when transferring fuels.

Likewise, it called for maintaining popular oversight and reporting in communities where violations are detected, with the purpose of preventing regrettable incidents and avoiding loss of human life and material losses.
