The Cuban Institute of Music informs with profound sorrow of the passing, at 84 years of age, of the distinguished musician and revolutionary combatant Eugenio Medina Muñoz, founding member of the historic Rebel Quintet.
Born on the 30th of December 1941, his life was indissolubly linked to the history of Cuba. Even before turning 17, he founded alongside his father, Osvaldo Medina, the Rebel Quintet on the 14th of May 1958, in the very Sierra Maestra.
His house in La Plata was a transit point towards the Command Headquarters, linking him from a very young age to the insurrectional struggle, in which he participated in combats such as Santo Domingo, Sabicú and El Jigüe.
