The University of Matanzas recognised the leader and his attachment to the revolutionary work.
Esteban Lazo, member of the Political Bureau and president of the National Assembly of People’s Power, received this Thursday the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa in Social Sciences from the University of Matanzas, in a solemn ceremony held in the José White Concert Hall.
Among other merits, the university recognises, in this man of peasant social origin, his integrity, loyalty to revolutionary principles, as well as his identification and permanent link with the people.
Dr. Leyda Finalé de la Cruz, Rector of the University of Matanzas, highlighted the human and patriotic qualities, as well as the intelligence and modesty of a respected leader, who has been able to carry out every task assigned to him with absolute transparency.
Visibly happy, Lazo recalled some passages of his life, with particular emotion those linked to his native Jovellanos, thanked all the professors and, in the first place, the encouragement that the example of the historical leaders of the Cuban Revolution has meant for him.
The ceremony, attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Walter Baluja, marked the 52nd anniversary of higher education in the province.
