During these days in which the character of Diego has taken an unexpected turn in the current telenovela “Return to the Heart”, the renowned and popular actor Enrique Bueno offered exclusive statements to the Cuban News Agency about his role.
Taking on each character constitutes a challenge, confessed the young man initiated into the world of art, first as part of the Amateur Artists Movement, and later, in theatre, while he was studying pre-university, with barely 18 years.
With a long trajectory on the boards, Bueno preferred, however, to speak specifically about his time in television and to remember Leroy, a role which allowed him to achieve fame in 2006 with a leading part in the telenovela “The Hidden Face of the Moon”.
Leroy, he said, came after his time with several groups, namely, Teatro del Viento and the Dramatic Ensemble of Camagüey, as well as the prestigious Hubert de Blanck theatre company, in Havana, where the great opportunity arrived when he played the sempiternal adversary of Don Juan Tenorio, —Don Luis— in the classic work by José Zorrilla.
This was a complex character on a psychological level, but very well received by the public, as well as others played in television productions, among which he mentioned: “Aquí estamos” and “Polvo en el viento”, telenovelas; the police dramas “Patrulla 444” and “Tras la huella”; in addition to the telefilms “La bala” and “Reinará la serpiente”.
Bueno has also ventured into presenting musical and humorous programmes, showing his versatility and talent on screen, as he does every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the season’s continuity fiction, on Cubavisión nights.
Fortunately, he highlighted, I believe that from my generation I am one of those who has had the opportunity to take on more leading roles on television, even the last telenovela I did was in 2012: Amores de verano, by Pedro Urbezo, under the direction of Rafael “Cheíto” González; since then, I decided not to do any more leading roles, because at times they lack appeal and fall below other characters, whose nuances allow the actor to split themselves.
In the case of “Return to the Heart”, both its plot and the conflicts —which are already developing— convinced him, and make the character of Diego leave his comfort zone.
It has been a challenge in every sense, he assured, precisely because I had never shared the stage with a life partner; working with Dalia Yacmell, who plays my partner in the telenovela as well (Silene), was something that put me to the test.
I had never found myself in a similar situation, even relationships with actresses do not interest me, but I met Dalia when she was a dancer and the moment she decided to be an actress got away from me; it was already late, because I was in love, he commented smiling.
Likewise, he confessed that Dalia had many fears because it was her first role, and so more than an actor I was her teacher: “I found myself between a rock and a hard place, especially at night, where she wouldn’t let me sleep and tormented me wanting to know my opinion about her recording: and even if I told her it was fine, she wouldn’t believe me until she saw the comments on social networks.”
For an actor, the energy and acceptance of the public, whether from the stage or in front of cameras, is a great satisfaction, since we work for them and to make our work believable by being sincere on scene; the art of acting lies in getting involved with your character’s story and making it your own, he concluded.
There are many projects in which Enrique Bueno is currently immersed, both in theatre and television; and in this sense, he said that he will soon be back with the series “Emocionalmente subversivas”, under the direction of Elena Palacio.
