Electrical generation capacity is being reinforced with the installation of 12 diesel engines in Ciego de Ávila, a result of collaboration from the People’s Republic of China.

The above was learned during an extensive tour of the province’s generation centres benefiting from the donation.

Mayumi Veloso Borges, director of the basic business unit Generator and Electrical Systems Group (GEYSEL), communicated that these 12 units will facilitate greater generation in the province, which had one of the most depressed power capacities in the entire country.

At the diesel power plant in the Primero de Enero municipality, work is underway on the installation of two engines with a generation capacity of 3.76 MW; similarly, the diesel power plant in Ciro Redondo was benefited, where two other engines with the same characteristics are being installed.

Meanwhile, at the Ceballos generation unit, which is the one with the most installations in the Avilanian territory, the installation of eight engines that will contribute 15.2 MW is being carried out.

Veloso Borges indicated that this donation represents an important contribution and a significant increase to generation, with 37.9 megawatts in total for the Avilanian territory.

She explained that each unit has a capacity of 1.88 MW with operation and characteristics very similar to those already installed, with the advantage that if a zero in generation occurs or a drop in the national electro-energetic system, the power of these engines is prepared to work in islands and create micro-systems that will manage to strengthen service.

During the tour, the director expressed that the Basic Business Unit Geysel has all the supplies and qualified personnel for the execution of this task; she explained that initially the Primero de Enero and Ciro Redondo power plants will be completed by the 20th of October, and for the Ceballos installation they have a commitment for completion by the 28th of October of this year.
