Venezuelans will commemorate today the thirteenth anniversary of the great electoral victory of Commander Hugo Chávez (1954-2013) on the seventh of October 2012.

President Nicolás Maduro, in his programme Con Maduro +, evoked that moment last night and expressed that «13 years are fulfilled since the last and great victory of the undefeated commander, overcoming pains, illnesses, and, together with the people, he achieved one of the most marvellous victories in the political electoral field.»

That victory reaches to today and is a force of sworn commitment from millions of men and women of this land and of solidarity from the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, and far beyond, he expressed.

He underlined that that great victory of the 7th of October 2012 has a preceding history of accumulation, of consciousness, facing challenges, such as attempted coups d’état and assassination attempts.

Maduro stated that all that heritage and that flag «we carry it today, it is clean, intact, undefeated, standing, in the yellow, the red, blue and the eight stars,» he referred, alluding to the national standard.

The head of state indicated that we are in times of great history, that no one should be mistaken, and he stated that «to doubt is betrayal, it is a time of great history, and we must continue building this path in homage to this giant, to the past histories and those yet to come.»

This past Saturday, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, evoked on Telegram the last public address of Chávez and indicated that «more than a speech, it was an embrace and a farewell,» and he highlighted that today that speech is «a reminder of everything Venezuela defends: a free, sovereign, and socialist homeland.»

We remember not only the close of an electoral campaign, but the promise that, as a nation, «we made that day to never abandon hope and resistance while we continue advancing towards our historic destiny,» he signified.

On that 4th of October 2012, the first words of Chávez were: «The Bolivarian avalanche has arrived in Caracas, and it arrived with a downpour, mate, look how Avenida Bolívar is over there, look, and Avenida México over there, and the Armed Forces over there, and Lecuna over there, Baralt, Urdaneta.

«With this San Francisco rain we consider ourselves blessed by the hand of God, of Christ the Redeemer, the holy water of San Francisco has fallen upon us, that is a prelude to what will occur on Sunday the 7th of October,» said the Bolivarian leader.

Three days later, the Venezuelan people were the protagonists of the resounding victory that would give the triumph to the Great Patriotic Pole, led by Chávez, by obtaining 55.25 percent of the votes with a voter turnout of 80.9 percent of the electorate.
