The 133rd anniversary of the first issue of the newspaper Patria will be remembered in Morón with a varied programme of activities on the Day of the Cuban Press, which will run from 5 to 14 March.

Journalistic staff from the local media, Radio Morón and the city’s television station will participate in workshops on journalistic genres, and to coincide with the Ocho de Marzo, they will recognise the role of women in the profession.

As on previous days, a representation of both Upec grassroots delegations will travel to the local cemetery to honour the memory of deceased colleagues.

Cuban Press Day is celebrated on 14 March, the date on which in 1892 the first issue of the newspaper Patria, created by José Martí in New York and which soon became the mouthpiece of the Necessary War, was published. (Author: Leonel Iparraguirre González)
