Economy and Draft Laws on Cuban Parliament’s Agenda

The Fifth Ordinary Session of the Tenth Legislature of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) begins today with an agenda focused on the economy and legislative approvals.

This Wednesday, legislators will evaluate the implementation and impact of measures under the Government Programme for correcting economic distortions and revitalising the economy, featuring an address by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero.

During the morning session, deputies will debate a report on key economic indicators at the close of the first half of 2025, presented by Economy and Planning Minister Joaquín Alonso.

Finance and Prices Minister Vladimir Regueiro will update parliamentarians on the execution of this year’s state budget and the liquidation of the 2024 budget figures.

Within this context, the Economic Affairs Commission and the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Commission will submit a joint assessment to the plenary evaluating sectoral performance and incorporating public feedback on the issues addressed.

According to National Assembly sources, Thursday’s agenda highlights the approval of draft laws concerning the Cuban Sports System; the General Regime for Administrative Contraventions and Sanctions; the Civil Registry; and the Code for Children, Adolescence and Youth.

The preceding day saw permanent commissions conclude evaluations of multiple national issues, emphasising governmental attention and parliamentary oversight of social vulnerability – an approach addressed with «effort, creativity, and intelligence.»

President Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed yesterday that Cuba and its Revolution maintain a social transformation programme grounded in the principle of leaving no citizen behind.
