Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that starting this May, the country will begin implementing a modern electronic tourist visa management system, called Evisa.
As the Foreign Ministry explained on its website, the new system will offer a more efficient and agile service to users who request it through Cuban consular offices abroad.
With Evisa, applicants will be able to start their visa process virtually, from any device connected to the Internet, simplifying the visa application and management process, eliminating the need for additional physical documents, it added.
The programme stands out for its user-friendliness and contribution to environmental protection and seeks to strengthen security and efficiency at all stages of the tourist visa process, from initial application to border control.
The Foreign Ministry said that with Evisa, the Caribbean nation is moving towards the implementation of a more modern consular system adapted to current needs.
The announcement comes at the same time as the information offered by Juan Carlos Granda, Minister of Tourism, during the opening ceremony of the 42nd edition of the International Tourism Fair FITCuba 2024, which is taking place in Jardines del Rey, Ciego de Avila, according to which this measure will begin on May 6 and will continue until June 30, with facilities for tour operators and travel agencies to process customer requests quickly from any mobile device.
In the presence of Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, the Minister highlighted the contributions of this action to the positioning of Cuba as a tourist destination globally and the impact it will have on increasing the flow of visitors, once it is implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Directorate of Identification, Immigration and Aliens of the Ministry of the Interior.
