In an emotional ceremony in front of his residence in the San Fernando district of the city of Morón, the Association of Cuban Pedagogues in Ciego de Ávila, declared Dr. Claudio Cordero Jiménez, Second Degree Specialist in General Surgery, Master in Medical Emergencies and Consulting Professor, a Jewel of Avilanian Pedagogy.

In front of neighbours, a representation of students from the Seminternado Antonio Maceo, health personnel from the Roberto Rodríguez Hospital, and mass organisations from his place of residence, the exemplary work of Dr. Cordero was highlighted, of whom it was said: «in his hands has been the task of saving many lives and of contributing to the training of countless health professionals».

In a summary of his life history, the Association of Pedagogues highlighted the fulfilment of several international missions, such as Angola, Gambia, where he was the doctor who accompanied the President of that country for a long period of time, as well as Bolivia.

«In these missions, it emphasised, this dedicated specialist shared the important task of training nurses and health personnel».

On being awarded the status of Jewel of Avileña Pedagogy, several of those present gave their views on his human and professional qualities and one of the neighbours exclaimed that it was this great specialist who gave him back his life with a major surgery he performed at the Hospital de Morón, thanks to his extensive knowledge, as a specialist and consultant teacher.

Now a plaque has been placed on the façade of his house to show that this is the home of a jewel of Avileña pedagogy (Author: Leonel Iparraguirre González).
