The actions for the recovery of sugar cane yields per hectare, one of the priorities of the country’s economic and social development in the food production program, counted this Sunday 25 with the participation of workers from several labor centers in the province of Ciego de Avila.
Liván Izquierdo Alonso, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Party in the territory of Avila; Alfre Menéndez Pérez, Provincial Governor and other leaders, led the mobilization that placed the seeds in 18 hectares of the Agricultural Production Cooperative Mártires de Bolivia, in the municipality of the same name.
Niurka Ferrer Castillo, general secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, informed that the planting of sugarcane is a priority task, not only as a tribute to the process underway in the grassroots structures of the 22nd Congress of the CTC, but also as a topic to be discussed in the upcoming assemblies of the union event, with a view to boosting the production of sugarcane, sugar and food in the areas of self-sufficiency of the Agroindustrial Sugar Companies and productive bases of the cooperative and peasant movement.
It is not only a matter of fulfilling the sowing plans and cultural activities for sugar cane, but also of prioritizing the integral attention to workers in order to avoid the exodus of the qualified workforce, one of the subjective problems that affect today this strategic sector for the recovery of the Cuban economy.
