Díaz-Canel presides over visit to Guantánamo Bay

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, began a working visit to Guantánamo today through the Unidad Empresarial de Base Derivados, of the Argeo Martínez plant, located in the municipality of Manuel Tames.

Accompanying Díaz-Canel in this new cycle of visits to the municipalities of the easternmost territory of the country are Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau of the PCC and Secretary of Organisation of the Central Committee, and the main political and government authorities of the province.

The municipality of Manuel Simón Tames Guerra, located in the north-eastern region of the Guantánamo valley, takes its name from a young Cuban revolutionary fighter, member of the 18th Antonio López Fernández column of the 2nd Frank País Eastern Front, who died in combat in 1958.

With the new political-administrative division for Cuba, the new Manuel Tames was created in January 2011, whose radius of action now covers the areas of the previous one and part of the municipality of Guantánamo, up to the locality of Santa Catalina, with the town of Jamaica as its head, the area of Argeo Martínez and its settlements, Honduras and its settlements and part of the municipality of Yateras.
