As that collective force born from love and justice is how the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) defines itself, which, nearing the commemoration of its 65th anniversary, recognised a representation of Cuban women who have dedicated their lives to the defence of the nation’s values and principles.
At the awards ceremony, headed by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, the honorary title of Heroine of Labour of the Republic was bestowed upon Mayda Benigna Álvarez Suárez, for her merits in her relevant labour, political and social trajectory.
Likewise, from the hands of the Head of State and the members of the Political Bureau, Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister, and Teresa Amarelle Boué, Secretary General of the FMC, the Mariana Grajales Order and the Ana Betancourt Order were granted to five and 19 federation members, respectively.
Also, at the proposal of the National Secretariat of the organisation that brings together Cuban women, the 23rd August Distinction was presented to a representation of the 300 women who will receive it, subsequently, across the entire country, as well as the Commemorative Seal for the 65th Anniversary and recognition to 101 cadres for their years of uninterrupted work in the Federation.
For that supreme place that women occupy in the country’s history, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, affirmed that «this own organisation was needed to represent their specific interests and to work towards achieving their broadest participation in economic, political and social life».
May his words, along with those of the eternal president of the FMC, Vilma Espín Guillois, serve as a guide to continue cultivating the mark of a just Cuba.
