Cuban Softballers Secure Double-Header Wins in Continental Super Round

The Cuban women’s national team maintained their unbeaten run through six outings, securing two victories on the opening day of the Super Round phase at the 2025 Pan American Softball Championship in Montería, Colombia.

In the early match at Luis Escobar Stadium, Jorge Lamas’ squad comfortably overcame El Salvador 6-0. Third baseman and cleanup hitter Yarianna López delivered an outstanding offensive performance, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Shortstop Yiliet Medina went 2-for-2.

Santiagan starter Yamelkis Guevara claimed her second tournament win, pitching 5.0 innings with three hits allowed, seven strikeouts, and no walks. Her ERA now stands at 1.40.

Villaclareña reliever Anisley López completed two immaculate innings.

In the closing duel, the Cubans defeated hosts Colombia 6-1. Granma left-hander Yilian Tornés secured her fourth consecutive win, striking out 11 batters to maintain her tournament lead (48 total). She issued no walks and completed her fourth straight full game.

Catcher Rosángela Jardines starred at the plate with three hits.

On Tuesday, Lamas’ protégées will face Argentina. Having already secured qualification for the 2026 Santo Domingo Central American and Caribbean Games, the team aims to clinch another berth for the 2027 Lima Pan American Games and secure a spot in upcoming World Cup phases.
