More than 50,000 Guantanameros today condemned the hostility of the United States against Cuba, and demanded the return of the territory illegally occupied by the US naval base in this eastern province.
In an Anti-imperialist Tribune led by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, in the Plaza de la Revolución Mariana Grajales Coello, the participants expressed their unity in favour of peace and the defence of national sovereignty.
They also rejected Washington’s decision to transfer up to 30,000 people considered dangerous criminals to the facilities of this military enclave as part of the current US administration’s anti-immigrant crusade.
They pointed out that this arbitrary measure could generate a scenario of risk and insecurity that threatens peace, and held President Donald Trump responsible for any act that threatens stability in this illegally usurped portion of Cuba.
On behalf of civil society, Miladis Llosa, sister of the young pioneer Daniel Llosas, who at the age of 13 died as a victim of one of the terrorist attacks against Cuba, said «I do not forget the pain that imperialist aggression has caused for years.
According to the local newspaper Venceremos, Llosa pointed out that «the United States has no morals whatsoever to claim that Cuba is a sponsor of terrorism, when historically we have suffered these acts financed by the governments of the North».
For her part, journalism student Ana Laura Campello, who is doing her voluntary military service in the Border Brigade, denounced the 122 years of occupation of that portion of territory, which is rejected by Cubans of all generations.
She also reaffirmed her confidence in the people’s victory over the US blockade and the more than 240 measures that have been taken to tighten it.
We Cubans have accomplished great feats such as the uprising at the La Confianza farm and the landings at Baracoa by Antonio Maceo, and at Playita de Cajobabo by José Martí and Máximo Gómez, the architects of the Necessary War, the 130th anniversary of which we are celebrating this year, he said.
Also present at the ceremony were the Secretary of Organisation of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales; the first secretary of the political organisation in the Upper East of Cuba, Yoel Pérez, and Major General Samuel Rodiles, together with other authorities of the province and representatives of all sectors.
