The squad that will represent Ciego de Avila in the zonal phase of the Cuban National Baseball 5-a-side Championship, which will begin today, Wednesday 14, in the capital of Ciego de Avila, is headed by the four most outstanding athletes of the Youth Tournament in which our team finished second.
These players, Josdey Hernández, Michel Vázquez, Dailenys Guillén and Arianna La O, were even called up to the Cuban pre-selection for the Nayarit 2025 World Cup in Mexico, starting on 24 September.
The Avila team also includes Dainar Morales, Randy Álvarez, Javier Gutiérrez and Casandra Álvarez, and the technical director will be Jasiel Gayón, who will be assisted by Lázaro O. Pérez González.
The competition will be attended by representatives from Sancti Spíritus, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos and Camagüey, and the first two places will advance to the final round to be held in June in Guantánamo.
Baseball 5-a-side is taking its first steps on the island, but Ciego de Avila is one of the provinces that has taken the most interest in this discipline and the first fruits are already beginning to be seen, such as the silver medals that the boys in the youth category have just won.
